Interval Training – FAQs

Start time and location

Interval training sessions start at 18:30 on Mondays. We meet usually at Gledhow Sports & Social but occasionally meet elsewhere to enable us to conduct a specific session(please see the booking form for details). Sessions held at the Gledow Sports Club may involve jogging to another location to carry out the session. The sessions will usually finish at 19:30 but due to the nature of most of the sessions you don’t have to do the full number of reps if you need to leave earlier.

Once a month we also use the Brownlee Centre cycle circuit for our session. This is a great place to do some faster training in a safe, floodlit setting. This session is generally held on the first Tuesday of every month and runs in a lieu of a Monday session. Please note this specific session starts at 6pm and runs for 1 hour. A small fee is payable for the use of the track (£3 paid by card at reception).

What is interval training?

We vary interval training to include hill, track speed sessions. Training can take a number of different forms (see the interval training schedule for more details of individual sessions and to book a place). We do ask you to book these sessions so we can ensure we have safe coach:athlete ratios for each of the locations.

What ability is interval training suitable for?

All abilities – there is no need to worry that you are too slow a runner to take part. If you can do the club runs on Wednesdays then you can do interval training on Mondays. The sessions are scaled to allow for a range of abilities and you don’t have to do all of the reps of any particular session.

What do I need to wear?

Normal running kit is fine. Road shoes will do for most interval training. If the weather is particularly wet a pair of off road / trail shoes for the sessions that involve running up Hill 60 and the dam hill would be helpful. If weather conditions make the planned session unsafe then we may change the session to one that is better suited to the conditions.
